The best Yucatecan restaurant in San Francisco and maybe even the best tacos period. The ideal meal here is a taco de xix (pronounced sheesh), a taco or panucho de poc chuc, and a salbute de relleno negro (actually quite a lot of food). The tortillas, panuchos, and salbutes are all made by hand.

2 Beretta $$ Italian
1199 Valencia St., San Francisco, CA3 Saigon Sandwich $ Soup & Sandwich, Asian: Southeast, Vietnamese
560 Larkin St., San Francisco, CA4 La Taqueria $ Mexican
2889 Mission St., San Francisco, CAWhy are La Taqueria's burritos the best in the Bay? Probably because they omit the rice. The carne asada burrito is the thing to get.
5 Flour + Water $ Italian, Pizza
2401 Harrison Street, San Francisco, CA6 Sebo $$$ Japanese/Sushi
517 Hayes St., San Francisco, CA7 Canteen $$ New American
817 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA8 Dottie's True Blue Cafe $ American Traditional, Diner
522 Jones St., San Francisco, CADottie's True Blue Cafe is the sort of place you imagine exists in every small town in America...but doesn't. Well it does in San Francisco, and everyone knows about it, so expect to wait...and wait...and wait. If you plan to beat the rush by getting there early or going at off times, rest assured that at least a dozen other people have the exact same idea. Dottie's is worth the wait though, especially for their justly famous rosemary-lamb sausage, roasted garlic, tomato, spinach and goat cheese omelette.
9 The Sentinel $ New American, Soup & Sandwich
37 New Montgomery, San Francisco, CAIf you're unlucky enough to work in the Financial District, the Sentinel is one of the few worthwhile lunch spots.
